The one trick: hold OK
Almost everything in Crivid lives in a menu on the thing itself. On a TV, hold OK on a channel, category, film or poster. On a phone or tablet, long press it. The menu shows what you can do with that item.
This guide describes the Android version. On iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac the steps are the same, but some screens may look a little different.
Favorites
Favorites keep the channels, films and series you care about in one place.
- A channel, on a TV: hold OK on it in the guide and choose Add to favorites. If your remote has colour buttons, the red one does the same.
- A channel, on a phone: tap the star on the channel row.
- While watching: use the star at the top of the player.
- A film or series: press Save on its page, or hold OK on the poster.
- Many at once: hold OK on a channel and choose Favorite several…
Everything you save is in the Favorites tab, sorted into Collections, Live channels, Movies and Series. On a TV your channels also appear as Favorite channels at the top of the category list.
Change the order
- Open Favorites, hold OK on a channel and choose Reorder.
- Move it with up and down, and press OK to drop it. On a phone, use the arrows and tap Done.
In the TV guide you can also hold OK on a channel inside Favorite channels and choose Move up in favorites or Move down in favorites.
Collections, your own categories
A collection is a list you name yourself, like “Football” or “Friday night”. It can mix live channels, films, series and titles from Plex, Jellyfin and Emby. One item can sit in several collections.
- Hold OK on a channel, film or poster and choose Add to collection.
- Choose New collection…, give it a name and press Save. Next time, just tick the collections you want.
Anything you add to a collection also becomes a favorite. Your collections are at the top of the Favorites tab.
- Change the order inside a collection: hold OK on an item and choose Reorder, the same as for favorites.
- Rename, move or delete a collection: hold OK on its name. Deleting a collection keeps the favorites in it.
Categories
Categories are the groups your provider sends, like “Sports” or “UK News”. You cannot rename them, but you can sort and hide them.
On a TV, hold OK on a category
- Pin to top puts it first in the list.
- Move up and Move down change the order. The menu stays open, so press again to move another step.
- Hide category removes it from the list.
- Parent lock… puts it behind your PIN. See Parental controls.
- Select several… hides or favorites many at once.
On a phone the category menu has Hide, Parent lock and Select several. Pinning and changing the order is done on a TV.
Hidden something by mistake? Open Settings, then Hide & restore.
Channels
Hold OK on a channel, in the guide or while watching it, to:
- add it to favorites or a collection
- Edit name and logo, if your provider’s name or logo is wrong
- Start multi-view with this channel
- Hide channel. Bring it back under Settings, Hide & restore.
TV guide, catch-up and reminders
Open Channels and pick a category. Each channel shows what is on now and next.
- Watch: press OK on what is on now to see a preview, and OK again to open the channel. You can turn the preview off with Live preview in guide in Settings.
- Catch-up: press OK on a programme that has ended and choose Watch program, or Restart program on one that is running. This needs an Xtream Codes login from a provider that keeps an archive for that channel.
- Reminders: press OK on a programme that has not started and choose Remind me. The reminder shows while Crivid is open.
Guide times off by an hour? Change EPG offset under Settings, Guide & Appearance.
Search
Search finds categories, channels, films, series and programmes in the guide. Type a team, a show or a channel name. Programme results show when they are on.
Open it from Search in the side menu on a TV (or the blue button), or the magnifying glass on a phone. Hold OK on a result to add it to favorites or a collection.
While watching
Press OK (or tap the screen) to show the controls. Depending on the channel you will find:
- Audio track and Subtitles, when the channel has more than one
- the picture size, which switches between Fit, Fill, Zoom and Original
- Sleep timer, from 15 to 90 minutes
- Previous channel, to jump back
- Go to Live, when you have paused and want to catch up
On a TV, press up or down while the controls are hidden to change channel, or type a channel number on the remote and press OK.
Picture-in-picture works on phones and tablets: press Home while something is playing and it keeps going in a small window.
Remote shortcuts
You will also find this list in the app, under Settings, Playback.
- Left while watching: a mini guide over the picture
- Down with the controls up: the programme line. Left and right browse programmes, OK sets a reminder or starts catch-up.
- Hold Back while watching: previous channel
- Hold OK while watching: the channel menu
- Guide or Menu button: the mini guide
- Colour buttons: red favorite, green guide, yellow Multi-View, blue search
Shield and Google TV remotes have no guide or colour buttons. Operator boxes and universal remotes do.
Multi-View
Watch up to four channels at once. Start it from the player, with the yellow button, or with Start multi-view in a channel’s menu.
- On a TV, press OK on a window for its menu: Audio here, Switch channel, Fullscreen or Close cell. Press OK on an empty window to add a channel.
- On a phone, tap a window to hear it, and long press for the menu.
- Switch between a grid and one big picture with small ones on top.
Movies and series
- Carry on where you stopped. Open a film you have started and choose Resume or Start over. On a TV, Continue Watching sits at the top of Movies and Series.
- Download a film on a phone or tablet to watch it offline. Downloads are not available on TVs.
- Your Plex, Jellyfin and Emby libraries are under My Media. See connecting a media server.
Parental controls
- Open Settings, then Parental Controls, and choose Set PIN (four digits).
- Hold OK on a category and choose Parent lock…
- Choose Lock to keep it in the list behind the PIN, or Lock & hide to hide it everywhere.
You can also lock a single film or series from its menu. Under Blocked words you can block every category whose name contains a word, including new ones your provider adds later. Everything you have locked is listed under Manage locked categories.
Several playlists
Open Settings, then Playlists, to add, edit, turn off or switch between playlists. When two or more are turned on, Crivid combines them into one guide. On a TV each playlist also gets its own section in the category list.
Backup and moving to a new device
Open Settings, then Backup & Restore. Export to a file saves your playlists, favorites, collections and hidden items. Restore from a file on the new device brings them back.
Keep the backup file private. It contains your playlist logins. Pro is not in the file, use Restore purchase for that.
Themes and settings
- App theme: twelve colour themes under Settings, Guide & Appearance.
- Resume last channel on launch: opens the channel you were watching when you start the app.
- Text size, thumbnail size, subtitle size and preferred subtitle language, default picture size and sleep timer, and more, under Settings.
- Diagnostics checks your connection and provider when something is not working.
